Prolactin secretion. 
Dopamine is formed in the hypothalamus and stored in the median eminence. It is secreted into the hypothalamo–hypophysial portal vessels to inhibit prolactin release tonically from pituitary lactotrophs. Any disruption of this pathway may therefore result in hyperprolactinaemia.
